Early Treatment (interceptive)

Children are advised to undergo screening for the advantages of early interceptive treatment by the age of 7. This early intervention encompasses aligning the width of upper and lower dental arches, directing the growth of upper or lower jaws, and creating space for the eruption of permanent teeth. Initiating early therapy can streamline subsequent treatment and may play a crucial role in both the child's dental and psychosocial development.

Adult Treatment

Approximately 1 in every 5 orthodontic patients are adults. Among them, some have undergone prior orthodontic treatment, while others may have lost teeth, necessitating pre-treatment tooth movement for prosthetic tooth placement. Additionally, some adult patients may require jaw surgery, as jaw growth is no longer active in adulthood.

Invisalign®

Invisalign provides a comfortable and aesthetic solution for straightening teeth. Using computer-fabricated transparent aligners replaced every two weeks, treatment usually lasts nine to fifteen months. A thorough screening determines Invisalign's suitability, and in some cases, pre-treatment may be needed for challenging movements.

Invisalign® Teen

Invisalign Teen provides an aesthetic and comfortable teeth-straightening option, with each set worn for two weeks over a total treatment period of nine to fifteen months. It includes color-changing compliance indicators and six free replacement aligners. Suitability is determined through screening, and pre-Invisalign treatment may be required for challenging movements.

Orthognathic Surgery

While braces are used to straighten teeth, surgical orthodontics (known as orthognathic surgery) can correct jaws when they are out of position.  Correction of jaw positioning can allow improved facial esthetics and functional improvements such as the ability to chew, speak, and breath. This is usually done in coordination with braces and in limited cases, with Invisalign.  Surgery is usually indicated for adults and jaw growth must be completed.  Usually jaw growth has ceased at age 16 for girls and age 18 for boys.  Pre-surgical orthodontics movements are usually started one to two years before they are ready for surgery.

Retention Options

Upon braces removal, teeth tend to shift back to their original positions, emphasizing the crucial retention phase for the final orthodontic result. The three main types of retainers include:

  • Hawley Retainers: Traditional and customizable, allowing some movements during retention. Available in various colors and designs.

  • Essix Retainers: Clear, known as See-Through retainers, covering all teeth for a discreet option. Can be instantly fabricated and used as bleaching trays.

  • Permanent Retainers: Placed behind front teeth post-orthodontic treatment, providing continuous retention. Often, a removable Hawley or Essix retainer is also offered.
